John Marshall Swails, Jr.
John Marshall Swails, Jr. focuses his practice on family law, personal injury and real estate litigation, including foreclosures and representation of homeowners associations and general civil litigation.
Marshall is a native of Columbia, South Carolina. He graduated from Wofford College, where he was a four-year member of the men’s golf team, graduating with a B.A. in history, cum laude. After college, Marshall attended the Charleston School of Law. During law school, Marshall served as an associate articles editor for the Charleston Law Review.
After graduating law school, Marshall immediately entered private practice, where he has remained ever since. Licensed in both South Carolina and North Carolina, Marshall has worked for private firms in both states. He joined Ronald S. Clement, Attorney at Law as an associate in 2015 in order to have the ability to focus on the special legal needs of small businesses and individuals in the Upstate. Although he is very much at home in a smaller, more personally oriented firm, Marshall spent several years working for a large, regional law firm based in North Carolina. The wealth of experience he gained from working in these different settings gives him a unique perspective that allows him to tailor creative solutions to his clients’ issues.John Marshall Swails, Jr. lives in Greenville with his wife, Elizabeth, who is a college English instructor. When not in the office, he enjoys golfing, college athletics, live music, craft beer and spending time outdoors.
